According to the results of the fifth public opinion poll, experts of the Institute have drawn the following conclusions:

1. Political crisis in Ukraine caused desacralization of power. More than a third of respondents declared that they have changed their attitude to political leaders. Ratings of leading politicians have fallen from 30% to 60%. Almost a half of respondents stands for reelections both of the Parliament and the President of Ukraine. Herewith more than a half considers that there is anarchy in Ukraine. Also, in spite of improvement of financial status of Ukrainians two thirds of citizens consider that the political crisis worsened the economic situation in the country. Only every fifth citizen of Ukraine considers that political crisis didn’t affect him.

2. There is no expectation of dictatorship in Ukraine. About a half of respondents stands for strengthening of democratic institutions in the country, herewith about a half of Ukrainians oppose to the limitation of rights and freedoms for the sake of stability. Two thirds of citizens think that maintenance and enforcement of the opposition in Ukraine is obligatory. Respondents are sure that the following amendments should be made to the legislature:
–          Cancellation of parliamentary privilege
–          President authority reinforcement
–          Majority electoral system (the election of deputies according to districts)
–          The reinforcement of local government authorities’ powers

3. There are strong rudiments of social mentality. Only 6.2% of Ukrainians oppose the government price regulation for basic goods. More than a half of respondents consider that the state is to make rich citizens pay extra taxes for benefit of poor. Moreover, more than a half of those questioned oppose the continuation of big objects privatization. Meanwhile the quarter of Ukrainians vote for implementation of administrative or criminal responsibility for speculation.

4. The answers which surprised us and which don’t have definite explanation. The half of respondents considers that the President has to take the responsibility for the current situation and put the country in order. And only every fifth Ukrainian considers that such person has to be a Prime-Minister. Only 3.77% of Ukrainians claimed not to be interested in political information, meanwhile every fifth respondent gets the information on the current political situation in the country not in the mass media, but from acquaintances and relatives. Also people don’t link their daily issues to the responsibility of the local authorities. More than a half of Ukrainians do not consider it necessary to hold early elections of the local authorities.
